What Is MAT™?
Muscular Activation Techniques (MAT) is a revolutionary new biomechanical process for correcting muscular imbalances in the body. MAT allows us to evaluate the muscular system and make corrections that dramatically improve functional capabilities for people of all ages. It has elevated athletic performance and career longevity in amateur and competitive athletes, as well as improved daily living for countless others.
No matter what the type of activity or exercise you prefer…golf, running, basketball, baseball, tennis, dancing or just walking up stairs…the MAT procedure addresses the weak links in your muscular system. It helps the body function more efficiently while minimizing pain.
What MAT is not
Muscle Activation Techniques is not Physical Therapy, Chiropractics, Massage Therapy or any other traditional modality. It is a biomechanical tool used to identify muscular imbalances and make the appropriate corrections. Through this process, compensation patterns that you may be using are eliminated allowing the muscles to function in the manner that they were designed.
Muscular Activation Techniques can augment your other treatments and get your closer to achieving your therapeutic goals. These other modalities can be powerful and successful therapies, but only if your muscular system is working properly. An MAT treatment plan prior to doing these other therapies may produce the best results.
Why is MAT different from other therapies?
The MAT process looks at muscle weakness, rather than muscle tightness as the cause of limitations in range of motion. When the body recognizes instability (muscle weakness) it is designed to protect itself by sending messages to surrounding muscles to tighten up in an attempt to support and protect the joint. By treating the weakness instead of the tightness, the root of the problem is addressed and correct neurological functioning can be restored. This proper communication between the nervous system and the muscle is vital for a muscle to be able to perform its tasks optimally.
History of MAT
This innovative treatment was developed over a 15 year period by Greg Roskopf, MS. Greg has worked as a Biomechanics consultant for various professional organizations including the Utah Jazz, the Denver Nuggets and the Denver Broncos. Until the MAT internship was initiated in 2001, only professional athletes had access to this technique, but now this technique is available to all individuals in Northeast Ohio.
